  • I’ve not done online Pilates before - how does this work?
This is actually very simple! Online classes run via Zoom (which is a free software for you to use). You are sent a link prior to every online class you are booked for. You simply click on the link on your computer and it opens to the class. As these are in real-time, you can see and chat with your instructor. Your instructor will give you feedback as required just like in-studio classes. If you’d like a test run to get set up, we are happy to help. Just get in touch and we’ll run through it with you.
  • Do I have to be flexible to be able to do Pilates?
Not in the slightest! No matter your flexibility level there is always an option of position or movement that will suit you. What you’ll find is that your flexibility will naturally increase over time, along with your strength. If flexibility is a goal to you, just mention this to Rachel, and it's a goal we can work towards more quickly for you.
  • Which classes are suitable for me?
If you are new to Pilates, welcome! You are about to open your eyes to a whole new comfortable way to move and get results! If you prefer to join a group class: The Matwork classes or Stretch & Release Class would be a great place to start. Different levels/options are given during these classes, and you are ABSOLUTELY welcome to take whichever level feels best for you on the day - zero judgement, everyone may take their own choice. Have a look at our schedule here.
  • It’s my first class, what do I do to prepare/bring?"
You’ll need your own mat (for both in person or online). You may wish to have a water bottle by your mat. Wear clothes you feel comfortable moving around in. If you are doing an online class, you will be sent the link in advance and we’ll let you know if you need to have anything else prepared for the class. For both online and in person classes, please arrive 5 to 10 minutes before your first class so you can meet your instructor and check in before the session starts.
  • Do I need to book before coming to a class?
Yes please! Class numbers are capped and booking is advised. For online classes, booking is ESSENTIAL to receive the zoom link for you class. You are able to register until 10 min prior to class, although booking earlier is recommended! Head over here to book.
  • What if I have an Injury?
We are fully trained to modify exercises for injury, or if there are physical limitations. Before the class begins, please approach your Pilates Instructor privately and discuss any pre-existing injuries, limitations or concerns you may have. We welcome you to attend The group Pilates classes, and also keep in mind that should you require extra attention, a Private 1:1 or Clinical Pilates session may be so beneficial to you. We are more than happy to discuss options with you or find out more here.
  • Do you take pregnant clients?
Yes, we sure do! Pilates is one of the BEST and highly recommended forms of exercises during pregnancy. We are guided by the most recent prenatal guidelines, and you’ll be guided to a few adjustments accordingly, to keep you and bub safe and sound during pregnancy. Irrespective of how far you are along in your pregnancy, please always advise your teacher (confidentiality is kept at ALL times!) prior to commencing class. **The only class not recommended during pregnancy is the 11.45am Thursday 'OG Joseph Pilates Matwork Flow' as this is fast paced and would require a lot of adjustments. (If you are already an instructor and are familiar with the propping/adjustments required, you are welcome to join)
  • What about current Covid-19 safety guidelines?
First and foremost, the health and safety of our members, staff, and the community are most paramount. We have actively implemented a safety plan in line with the best available health advice. Please note the following: • 4sqm minimum space per person (2sqm is actually legislated - we double that) • Hand sanitiser at entry to group class or 1:1 sessions • Please wear a face mask to and from each session as per Gov’t regulation. During class, if you consider it ‘vigorous’ exercise you are allowed to remove the mask for that period of time. • Props or any shared equipment is disinfected after each use. • Please exercise sound judgement when it comes to social distancing. • Good hygiene practices are encouraged. • Do not attend in person if you have ANY symptoms or feel unwell, we encourage you to take advantage of our online classes in this situation if you’d like to keep moving.
